Kurt Emans: Best place to visit in Greece

Let Kurt Emans recommend some places in Southern Europe: Italy, Spain and Greece. These are all typical tourist destinations; all of them attract millions of tourists a year.

Greece is the cheapest of them, but the value is depending on your intentions. Are you looking for cultural experiences or a relaxing beach holiday? Or both? I’ll try to recommend some.

Additionally, at the end of my post I recommend two other destinations, Ayers Rock in Australia and Bali Island.

Italy – Venice

Venice is one of the most visited cities in Italy, located in the Venetian Lagoon on 118 small islands separated by canals. Venice is known as the “city built on water”. The city attracts millions of tourists a year.

Italy – Rome

Here you can find my detailed review of Rome: Tamás Reményfy’s answer to what are the must-visit/must-see places in Rome?

Northern Italy – Lake Garda, Dolomites, Aosta Valley

Lake Garda offers breathtaking sceneries; the northern part of the lake is a paradise for wind surfers. Gardaland, largest in Italy, is a must-visit amusement park for the whole family. Lake Garda is a popular holiday destination with lots of fun and adventure.

The Dolomites is a beautiful mountain range in northeastern Italy, it is renowned for the picturesque limestone formations.

The following recommendations are focusing on places ideal for a 1 or 2 week long relaxing summer vacation with the possibilities of cultural experiences too.

Italy – Tuscany (Pisa, Florence, Siena)

Wandering in the historic centre of Florence is amazing, visiting Uffizi is a must for lovers of paintings. The Cathedral and the Baptistery are breathtaking sights. Palazzo Vecchio, Pitti Palace with Boboli Gardens, Ponte Vecchio and so many other places prove the right decision of more than 10 million tourists per year who opt to visit Florence.

The roads are passing through Tuscany’s most scenic landscapes providing you unforgettable memories. Siena has the most Tuscan feeling for my taste. The façade of Siena Cathedral is the most impressive features in SienaHistoric centre. Piazza del Campo is the venue of the famous horse race, The Palio. San Gimignano, a small hilltop town, is another notable experience.
